New Here? … Cheers!

Welcome! As the tagline notes, I’m an author living life with espresso, dark chocolate, a keyboard, and a camera. Well, an author and maybe a bit more.

My extended hiatus from a long, rewarding professional career in publishing and media, is over. In other words, while most folks know me from my social media presence, new books, blogs, and more are here! And it’s great to be sharing all these with you again!

Rest assured reading, researching, and writing anchored me during that absence. Given the challenges along the way, however, the fruits of that labor have been waiting in the wings.

In short, that’s about to change!

Irreverent Reference: Staying True to My Roots

Writing and reading have always felt as natural as breathing to me and as much a part of my life. Curiosity drives me to interesting places. Some might say it’s an addiction. I prefer to call it a devotion.

“Reference writer” conjures up images of a bookworm squirreled away in some dark corner of a library. In my case, you’d be half right. After all, I was once a stand-up comic, too. My penchant for combining these two makes irreverent reference the perfect description of what you’ll find here

What’s Old is New: Food for Thought and Beyond!

Ian Makay’s Food for Thought is a new series that goes back to a beginning. The Pleasures of the Table: Primi Piatti is the greatly revised take on the book which gave birth to Makay.

Certainly, there are more books to come—including later this year.

This site’s Features page is an extension of the series. In other words, it offers a sampling of my books; current articles and blogs; and content links to other places.

Start with the neighborhood guide as your roadmap to this site’s newest posts and the archives. After that, read the Terms of Service; privacy commitment; review policy; and affiliate statement.

Yup! I’ve Been Around!

AOL, Food Network, Saveur, FOX News, the James Beard Foundation’s JBFNotes, and The Global Gourmet are some of the places I’ve appeared. The About page adds a little about me beyond that and before Ian Makay was born.

Something of a Renaissance person, in addition to my life as a writer and an online food personality I’ve been a publisher; an editor; a business owner; a culinary and wellness expert; an educator; an image and media consultant; a curriculum developer; and an artist whose work has toured the world. Stints on the stage, on radio, on television, and in the recording studio, round out my professional experiences.

So have at it! Enjoy!
